Does purpose matter?
Life Purpose
Many philosophers, scholars, religious gurus and others have postulated varying theories about why man exists.
- The purpose of life is to find your life purpose – Robin Sharma
- The purpose of life is to serve others, if you can’t serve them don’t hurt them – Dalai Lama
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself. – Jesus Christ
What I know for sure is that everything in creation has a purpose. Look closely at your own body, your heart, lungs, veins, eyes even eyelashes etc – everything is masterfully crafted to fulfil a purpose. It is therefore fitting to postulate that you, as an individual also have a life purpose.
You are unique. Out of over 7 billion people in this universe there is no other person like you. No other person has the same combination of experiences, strengths, gifts and talents, personality, passions and mindset. There are problems that humanity faces that touch you deeply. When you use your strengths to solve those problems for humanity and get paid for them you will prosper emotionally, spiritually and financially.
True purpose is recognizing your own God-given greatness and prosperously using it to contribute to the world – for God’s glory

What is your life purpose? Dare to ask that question for yourself until you find an answer that truly resonates with you because purpose matters. Many studies prove that a high sense of purpose is associated with the following:
Health
Longevity: Dan Buettner with a team of medical researchers, anthropologists, dieticians, demographers, and epidemiologists found that communities that had a long life span have a high sense of purpose.
Other research studies has shown that people with a high sense of purpose handle pain better, have a lower incidence of heart disease and Alzheimers.
Social Relationships
People who are living on purpose enjoy more satisfying relationships with others. They associate with people who inspire and encourage them as they also do the same to others.
Mindset
According to neuroscientists a high sense of purpose activates a part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System whereby the thoughts, actions and words are filtered and aligned so effectively to make decision making easy.
People with a high sense of purpose are also resilient because they are fuelled by passion and a strong desire to contribute and make an impact in the world.
Purpose Fuels Profit
A high sense of purpose is also beneficial to organisations. Purpose driven businesses outperform other businesses by far. A global survey sponsored by EY Beacon Institute entitled The Business Case For Purpose was conducted by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services. If found that organizations where purpose had become a driver of strategy and decision-making, enjoyed
- greater revenue growth,
- more successful innovation, and
- ongoing transformation.
- higher staff engagement
- more loyal customers.
